What I'm Workin' on Wednesday.....

In between getting ready for my yard sale this weekend, getting ready for the fall semester nursing program, planning a graduation party and preparing my craft booth, I have made these adorable raggedy patriotic bowl fillers/cupboard tucks for my new shoppe (they are much cuter in person!) Arrange them in a large bowl, to make a star.....

Here are the steps:
  • Cut out triangles from muslin (approx 5 x 4 inches)
  • Sew triangles together (keeping the raggedy edges on the outside)
  • Soak the pieces in a coffee/vanilla/cinnamon mixture
  • Place on old cookie sheet (sprinkle cinnamon if desired)
  • Bake in the oven (220 degrees checking them every 5 min (the raggedy edges will turn slightly dark brown (this is a good thing)
  • Clip one layer of muslin (on the back) for stuffing
  • Stuff and whip stitched the backs
  • Paint the front with color washes of blue, red and cream...I added cinnamon fragrance to the colorwash paint mixture (paint & coffee/vanilla) ....they smell so good!
  • Add a rusty safety pin with two bells, cheese cloth and a grungy dipped tag with patriotic sayings, to the front
  • Sign each piece on the back
  • Place in a bowl or basket for display
  • May be placed in with other bowl fillers/cupboard tucks like crows, sheep, tart melts/rosehips tealights or pip berries
Can't believe it's almost the 4th of July....summer goes way too quickly!! (do you see my Molly in the background?). I'll be working on more patriotic items then onto fall stuff.....
